„The Hurt Locker" a castigat sase premii Oscar la cea de-a 82-a editie a Premiilor Academiei de Film, ce a avut loc duminica noaptea. Asadar, a castigat premiul pentru cea mai buna imagine, de altfel cel mai mare premiu al Academiei, la fel si trofeele pentru regie, scenariu, editare sunet, mixaj sonor si editare film. Filmul cu buget redus, unul dintre filmele cu cel mai mic buget nominalizate in perioada post-„ Star Wars", a invins principalul rival, „Avatar" al lui James Cameron, la polul opus din punct de vedere al bugetului, adica cel mai scump film al tuturor timpurilor.
„Avatar", cu efecte uimitoare si o prezentare de exceptie, a castigat trei Oscaruri, pentru cinematografie, efecte vizuale si regie artistica. Cele doua filme au condus ceremonia cu cate noua nominalizari fiecare.
